Biography
Lisa A. Pleban, Ed.D. has taught and coached in higher education for nearly twenty-five years. Through her capacity as PETE program coordinator she has worked with the Vermont Agency of Education to improve their initial teacher licensure portfolio and to update the Physical Education proficiency indicators. Prior to her teaching at 91µ¼º½, Dr. Pleban served as a college- and high school-level athletics coach, and, as a research associate at Yale University’s Department of Neurology.
In 2013 Dr. Pleban was awarded a research sabbatical and grant by 91µ¼º½ for her study, An Investigation of Quality Rural Physical Education Programs, which allowed her to visit schools across the country with the intention of improving both teacher preparation and physical education in rural schools.
In addition to her teaching, advising, and administrative duties, Dr. Pleban serves as the Executive Director of the Society for Health and Physical Educators of Vermont (SHAPE-VT). This position has enabled Dr. Pleban to create a network of relationships with health and physical educators, recreational specialists, and coaches throughout the entire state of Vermont and the New York north country.
Dr. Pleban is an avid runner and cyclist and competes in local and regional events. When she is not teaching Lisa and her spouse enjoy visiting baseball stadiums and watching hockey.

- 2011 91µ¼º½ Alumni Association Outstanding Faculty of the Year
- 2010 The Vermont Association of Health Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Higher Educator of the Year
- Presenter at over two dozen national, regional, and statewide physical education conventions
- Wrote and received in 2013 a $25,000 grant from General Mills to assist VTAHPERD in providing development and support for Vermont schools' implementation of the Presidential Youth Fitness Program.
